Senator Tinubu honours Governor Fubara’s wife with TB Champion award

Lady Valerie Fubara, wife of the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, was decorated with the TB Champion award by Nigeria’s First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the State House in Abuja, at an event to raise awareness and combat tuberculosis across the country.

Lady Fubara and wives of other State Governors were decorated as TB Champions by President Bola Tinubu’s wife, during her investiture as the Global and National Stop TB Champion.

The former Senator who emphasized the need for renewed dedication in the fight against tuberculosis, particularly at the state level, commended the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for its efforts in increasing awareness and sensitisation that has led to significant improvement in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, hitherto classified as incurable.

Making a donation of ₦1billion through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Tinubu, further tasked wives of State Governors, to intensify awareness efforts to ensure that the spread of Tuberculosis is minimised.

Lady Fubara was represented by Hon. Mrs. Tonye Briggs Oniyide, who received the TB Champions award on behalf of the first lady of Rivers state.

Oniyide, a former two-time Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, has brought numerous awards and accolades to the State during her tenure through Culture and Tourism.

She also facilitated a partnership between the Africa Film Academy and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism through a landmark agreement which secured Port Harcourt as host city for the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards.

The event, was attended by former First Ladies and wives of former Vice Presidents.
