In a drastic move to quell political volatility, the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday sealed off the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), barring all staff and members from the premises until further notice.
The sudden closure, enforced by a heavy security presence, was initiated to prevent a repeat of the “drama that played out on Tuesday,” signaling intense internal friction within the opposition party that has escalated into a security concern.
A team of police officers, reportedly from the FCT Police Command, moved swiftly to barricade the entrance to the nerve center of the party. The facility was locked down with iron barb wires, and police personnel were stationed to ensure strict compliance with the shutdown order. All secretariat staff were immediately sent away, and party faithful have been officially warned not to approach the premises.
The decision to effectively seize control of the party’s headquarters reflects the severity of the internal crisis plaguing the PDP. By intervening, the police are acting as a preventive measure against a potential breakdown of law and order that could stem from competing factions within the party.
The indefinite closure means that all administrative, strategic, and political activities of the party have been immediately halted at the Secretariat. The action throws the opposition party into a state of logistical and political turmoil, ensuring a period of uncertainty as its leadership attempts to resolve the underlying issues that triggered the security intervention.
