Scores killed during MASSOB protest in six States

A peaceful procession by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), commemorating the declaration of Biafra on May 30, 1967 in memory of the former leader of the defunct Biafra Republic ,  late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, turned bloody yesterday in Six States in the South-south and South-east regions of the country.

Thousands of protesters had clashed with security operatives resulting in the death of over  50 MASSOB Members and dozens of  security operatives in Enugu,  Delta, Anambra, Imo, Abia,Ebonyi, and Cross Rivers States.

 

In recent years,  MASSOB and later IPOB have emerged, with its members attempting to resuscitate the ghost of Biafra.

Meanwhile,  In Onitsha 30 members of Biafra were killed and 50 others were whisked away by the Military and taken to the 302 cantonment of the Nigeria Army. While in Asaba,  seven people were killed including two policemen, with two other policemen critically injured.  Eight MASSOB members were also arrested by the military.

In Umuahia,  the Abia State capital,  ten members were arrested by the police and one sustained gunshot injury. In Enugu 13 people were arrested, and  in Owerri,  the Imo State capital, 17 people were arrested. In Abakiliki the Ebonyi State capital,  92 members were also arrested.

While in Ikom Town, in Cross Rivers State,   the protesters were resisted by the Vice President of the National Youth Council (NYC) , Prince Ayuk Ojong and otter members of NYC.
