SARS officers chase Staff of Niger Delta Basin Dev Authority to death

Yesterday, June 13, is a day many motorists and passersby will not forget in a hurry. What appeared to be a car chase involving some SARS officials and a man identified as Timi Matholo, left many in tears. According to an eyewitness account, the SARS officers allegedly chased Matholo, around Odili road axis of Rivers State, heading towards Woji Town, when in a bid to avoid a head-on collision with a Tricycle which was reportedly, driving against traffic, he lost control and his vehicle somersaulted several times, before going off the busy Trans Woji road.

Our source said the deceased was reportedly running away from the SARS officers whom he thought were armed robbers before the sad incident occurred. Narrating further to Africa Update that when the accident occurred, about 7;45pm, the SARS operatives, allegedly refused to allow good samaritans take him to the hospital for medical attention, and Matholo, was said to have been inside the car, struggling for his dear life for almost two hours.

When he was eventually taken to an undisclosed hospital about 10p:m, he was pronounced dead at about 11:30 pm, as a result of internal bleeding, broken neck and ribs.
