RSSDA, Nigeria Police, others bag serving humanity award

The need for constant commendation and recognition of individuals and organizations who render selfless service to humanity was the highpoint of the installation ceremony organized by the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City barely a week ago, at the Earnest Ikoli press center (NUJ Complex) in port Harcourt.

In her inaugural speech, the club president,  Rtn.  Gloria Boma Harry said in line with the ideals of Rotary International which emphasizes service above self, organizations such as Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA), The Nigeria Police,  National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) amongst others were recognized for their invaluable contribution to humanity.

She hinted that the serving humanity award was bestowed on these oorganizations considering the extent of service rendered to humanity in exchange for little or nothing.

She further stated that the club would embark on projects in the six areas of focus of Rotary International,  which include basic education and literacy,  economic and community development,  disease prevention and treatment,  maternal and child health, peace and conflict prevention and resolution and water and sanitation to address the needs of physically challenged children .IMG_20160821_164242_edit

Other recipients of the serving humanity award are : Rivers State Independent Publishers Association (RIVPA), correspondent Chapel, Association of Nigeria Author (ANA) Rivers State, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Rivers State Branch, Nigeria Medical. Association. (NMA), Silverbird Communications,  Rivers State broadcasting corporation,  home for the elderly,  O.B Lull-Briggs foundation,  Port Harcourt children home, home for handicapped children, Rivers State Television (RSTV), seaview poetry club, red cross, Channels TV, Nigeria union of Journalists (NUJ) Rivers State council,  the Tide newspaper,  Garden city radio, wave FM, Nigeria prisons services, Actors Guild of Nigeria Rivers State  chapter,  Braithwaite memorial specialist hospital, National union of road transport workers , FIDA and NUT.

While the Honorary Rotarian award was presented to The commissioner for youth and sports  Enugu State, Hon. Charles Ndukwe, the  MD/ CEO Alajust Nig. Ltd Comrade Alkali Horsfall, the officer in charge of the anti kidnapping unit of the Rivers State police command, SP Paul Umoh and the senior pastor liberty Christian church, Bishop Dr. Moses Obasi for their immense contribution to humanity.
