*Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City holds skill acquisition programme at Port Harcourt Safe Home*
In line with efforts to empower residents of the Port Harcourt Safe Home, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City organised a skills acquisition training programme for the residents.
They were trained in making pastries like buns, puff-puff , chin-chin and doughnuts and how to make a viable living from the sales of these items.
President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City, Rtn. Emeka Kingsley Nwaneri noted that the programme is in line with one of Rotary’s areas of focus in economic development and empowerment which aims at empowering communities with requisite life skills that they can earn a living from.
“This programme aims to help the young people resident here to become empowered. We know times are hard and one way to help is by training them in skills they can earn a living from and take care of themselves.”
Rtn. Nwaneri noted that the Port Harcourt Safe Home is one that often overlooked in veritable partnerships that would help to achieve its purpose of rehabilitating the residents and that’s why the Club has taken it as a duty to hold a skills acquisition programme at the Home every Rotary year.
Director Child Welfare, Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Dr. Nwibana lauded the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City for keeping true to their word in organising the skills acquisition programme as they did in the previous Rotary year.
He described the skills acquisition project as a welcome development that would enhance the potentials of the residents and give them good skills they can use to fend for themselves even after they leave the Home.
He called on like-minded individuals and organisations to partner with the Ministry in its rehabilitation programmes as the ministry welcomes such strategic partnerships.
Food items were also donated to the Home.
