Port Harcourt, Rivers State — The Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) is cracking down on sanitation with a rescheduled monthly exercise set for Saturday, September 6, 2025. The drill, which was initially postponed for a week due to the local government elections, will come with a strict movement restriction from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
In a statement, RIWAMA Chairman Samuel Nwanosike urged residents to comply fully with the directive, warning that the agency will not hesitate to enforce compliance. He emphasized that the agency would carry out sanitation on any premises that fail to participate, with the cost of the cleanup charged directly to the occupants.
The Chairman’s strong words signal a zero-tolerance approach to environmental neglect and a renewed push for a cleaner city after the political interruptions of the past week. Only those on essential duties with proper clearance will be exempted from the three-hour restriction.
