As political activities gather momentum across most states in the Country, ahead of the 2023 General elections, a new sheriff has arrived Rivers State, to take over the affairs of the State Police Command, Africa Update has reliably gathered.
The new Commissioner of Police, was unveiled yesterday at the Command’s headquarters during a chat with newsmen. Speaking at the median press conference, Okon Effiong stated that Human Rights abuse will not be tolerated under his watch and called on residents to report any form of abuse by any officer.
Effiong said: ‘We are quite aware that we are already in the season of elections and campaign have started. The new electoral law does not give room for thuggery and violence. Therefore, we will do everything possible to ensure that right from the time of campaigns violence and thuggery are eliminated. People should be able to come out freely and discharge their responsibility as it pertains to those who would govern them.’
The Commissioner who informed that the command will take proactive measure in tackling insecurity enjoined criminals to desist from their nefarious acts or face the full weight of the law.
Effiong who took over the realms of authority from Friday Eboka, promised to run an open door policy with utmost professionalism. With the General elections around the corner, Effiong has become the forty second commissioner of police in Rivers State.
