Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Administrator of Rivers State, conducted an extensive inspection tour of critical state projects on Saturday. The assessment included the ongoing Rivers State House of Assembly Complex on Moscow Road, the Port Harcourt Technical and Vocational Centre in Old GRA, and the Dr. Obi Wali International Conference Centre located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Addressing journalists following the tour, Administrator Ibas committed to a thorough evaluation of the underutilized Port Harcourt Technical and Vocational Centre. This appraisal aims to identify and address the impediments to its optimal operation, recognizing the centre’s vital role in cultivating skilled labor, fostering economic growth, and mitigating youth unemployment within the state.
Vice Admiral Ibas underscored the foundational belief in skills-based education and social impact that underpinned the vocational centre’s establishment. He asserted that the continued underutilization of such a crucial facility was unacceptable. “The Port Harcourt Technical and Vocational Centre, much like the Dr. Obi Wali International Centre, is significantly underutilized. We must undertake decisive measures to ensure these facilities fulfill their intended purposes,” he stated.
During his review of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex project, the Administrator expressed satisfaction with the construction progress and acknowledged the substantial employment opportunities generated for local youths. “I have previously visited this site and received updates from various departments. Today’s inspection allowed me to observe the advancements made on this facility, alongside others. These structures were commissioned to enhance the socio-economic landscape of the state. By optimizing their functionality, we can productively engage more young individuals and elevate their skill sets,” he elaborated.
The Rivers State Government remains steadfast in its commitment to strategically enhancing key infrastructure to champion youth empowerment, stimulate economic development, and achieve sustainable growth across the state.
