Rivers State: 737 certficates of Occupancy approved for revocation

About 737 certificates of Occupancy might be revoked in the coming weeks by the Rivers State Government.

This hint was given by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Lands and Survey, Dumo William Jack, who stated that the decision was reached following the breakdown of the mechanism of sending notice for ground rent demand .

He said over N20 billon was being owed by 737 debtors who have failed to pay their ground rent to the state government.

He however, reiterated that the payment process has been computerized by the Nyesom Wike led administration to replace the manual sytmen which has been ineffective in the last 30 years.

Jack warned that defaulters would forfeit properties situated at government reserved areas, if they don’t pay the outstanding amounts while those on community property will have such certificates canceled from government records.

He urged citizens to take opportunity of the 50% rebate to pay such outstanding amounts before the December 31, 2017 deadline to avoid losing their certificates of occupancy or properties.
