Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Martin Amaewhule, has promised to donate his August Salary to three female Rivers State indigenes.
Amaewhule, made the promise while ruling on a motion presented by the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Linda Somiaria Steward, requesting the Lawmakers to honour three patriotic Rivers women; Renal Wakama; Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpana; and Kekwaru Ngozi Mary, who recently made the State proud.
The House, after deliberations, resolved to write a letter of commendation to these women as motivation for making the country and the State proud in their professional duties.
While presenting the motion, Stewart said these ladies have become “the toasts of the town, beacon of hope for the young and succeeding generations as well as worthy ambassadors of the State.
“Apart from representation, lawmaking and oversight functions, one of the responsibilities of a parliamentarian is to bring to the front burner issues of national interest that have the propensity to promote development and the corporate image of the State.
“These distinguished women through sparing acts of self discipline, selflessness, uprightness and public spiritedness, have put the State on the global map and should be commended and celebrated “, she stated.
Renal Wakama is the Head Coach of D’Tigress (Nigeria’s female basketball) team that just won the 2023 edition of Afro Basketball Championship in Kigali, Rwanda, while Pallas was a player in the team.
Kekwaru Ngozi Mary was a lady that courageously and steadfastly returned the sum of $70,000 misplaced by a customer at Eko Hotel and Suite where she works.
The Leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie, who led the debate on the floor of the House, said the three Rivers females have made the State proud, and they deserve commendation.
In his submission shortly after extensive debate, the Speaker said the House has resolved to write a letter of commendation to them and promised to give out his August salary to them.
