Rivers: Presidential Election Results from some LGAs spring surprise

Results have begun to trickle in nearly 24 hours after the Presidential and National Assembly elections that held across the Country on February 25, particularly in Rivers State, where such results are met with mixed feelings.

The collation and announcement of Presidential Election Results monitored by Africa Update shows a three horse race.

So far, All progressives Congress, APC, has won two LGAs, while Labour party and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, appear to have won one local government each from the four local government areas that have presented their results, if the Gokana result for PDP remains the way it was presented before some discrepancies were spotted in the result.

This discrepancy led to the stepping down of the report. The collation officer/ Returning Officer for the Presidential Election in the State and Vice Chancellor of Federal University Otueke, Prof Charles Teddy Abia, presided over the collation with officials from the Police , civil society groups, monitors and observers watching every move.

Prof Abia had noticed that the figures for Gokana LGA did not add up, so the returning officer was asked to redo the math.

Results from Ahoada West, Tai, and Opobo Nkoro were accepted, while the result from Gokana was rejected.

Results from Ahoada West:- A- 52 , AA- 5, AAC- 6, ADC- 41, ADP- 7, APC- 3443, APGA- 15,,APM- 8, APP- 8, BP- 14, LP- 4,634, NNPP- 11, NRM – 13, PDP – 2582 ,PRP- 4, SDP- 147, YPP – 8 and ZLP – 64. Total valid votes: 11,602, Rejected votes- 443, total votes cast- 11,505. Total number of wards-12. Though votes did not hold in some units due to disruption of the voting process. Number of registered- 59,047, accredited voters – 10094.

Results from Tai- A- 8 , AA- 5, AAC- 31, ADC- 20, ADP-10, APC-9,442, APGA- 10,,APM- 5, APP- 27, BP- 3, LP- 485, NNPP- 18,, NRM- 6, PDP -1506, PRP- 3, SDP- 128, YPP – 3 and ZLP – 15. Total valid votes: 11,725/, Rejected votes- 566, total votes cast- 12291. Total number of wards-10.Number of registered- 74,106, accredited voters – 12,291.

Results from Opobo Nkoro:- A- 13, AA- 3, AAC- 4, ADC-24, ADP- 9, APC- 5701, APGA- 13, APM- 4, APP- 2,, BP- 7 LP- 2,093, NNPP- 3, NRM- 3, PDP – 1542, PRP- 0, SDP- 15, YPP – 3 and ZLP – 7. Total valid votes: 9449, Rejected votes- 614, total votes cast- 10,063. Total number of wards-11. Number of registered- 59,047, accredited voters – 10094.

Results from Gokana:- A- 348 , AA- 47, AAC- 23, ADC- 156, ADP- 80, APC- 7848, APGA- 37,,APM- 1533, APP- 202, BP- 9, LP- 2,086, NNPP- 30, NRM- 16, PDP – 10,031, PRP- 8, SDP- 2337, YPP – 25 and ZLP – 93. Total valid votes: 22886, Rejected votes- 2117, total votes cast – 25,735. Total number of wards-17. Registered Voters- 130,172, accredited voters–25,442. From the statistics available to Africa Update, it appears that the LGA had an incident of over voting.
