PORTHARCOURT, Rivers State – In a significant breakthrough, the Rivers State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 23-year-old man in connection with the brutal murder of his girlfriend in Umuebule community, Etche Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Kingsley Chinamezu, also known as “Power Sharp,” was tracked down and apprehended in his hideout in Edo State after a diligent manhunt.
The incident, which occurred on July 30, 2025, involved the gruesome killing of 44-year-old Miss Confidence Konebari Sunny, who was reportedly macheted to death. Following the heinous crime, Chinamezu fled the state, seeking refuge in Egbeta village, Edo State. In an act of brazen defiance, he reportedly began issuing threats to the victim’s family, boasting that he was untouchable and could not be held accountable.
Upon a formal complaint from the victim’s family, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, swiftly assigned the case to the Command’s specialized Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU). Utilizing technical intelligence, the Operatives launched an operation that spanned across state lines. Their efforts paid off on August 15, 2025, when they successfully located and arrested the fugitive.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, providing details of the events that led to the murder. The police command stated that evidence is being collected and Chinamezu is currently undergoing further investigation to determine if he has any involvement in other criminal activities. He is expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
CP Adepoju commended his team for their swift and professional response, emphasizing that criminals will find no safe haven in Rivers State. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice and public safety, warning that the long arm of the law will inevitably catch up with those who commit such crimes.
