Baring all other circumstances, the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will on Monday, October 24, 2022 inaugurate the campaign council for the 2023 general elections.
Ambassador Desmond Akawor, chairman of the party in the State revealed this on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 while playing host to a section of the press under the aegis of Port Harcourt Press in his Garden city home.
He disclosed that the well-selected team of competent Rivers men and women will be headed by a seasoned politician and a former chairman of the party in the State, Bro. Felix Obuah as the Director-General.
Amb. Akawor commended the group for finding time to visit him and for the rare initiative of using the platform to support the party and its gubernatorial candidate as well as publicizing the notable achievements of Governor Nyesom Wike. The chairman assured members of the group of playing significant roles all through the campaigns and during the elections.
Amb. Akawor further charged the group to gear up to the task ahead as there will be scathing media attacks from the opposition when the campaigns gather momentum.
He noted that the 2023 elections will be one of its kind and elaborated on the emergence of Sir Siminalayi Fubara following party elders’ consultation prior to the primary election describing it as an act of God which has continued to manifest thereafter.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Port Harcourt Press, Hon Ogbonna Nwuke said the visit was a follow up to an earlier one stressing that it is to reassure the party chairman of the unalloyed commitment of the group towards Project SIM 2023 and providing the most formidable publicity for the party as well as the unprecedented accomplishments of Governor Nyesom Wike.
He lauded the party chairman for the privilege and asked for continuous synergy between the party and the press to enable the group effectively contribute to the campaigns and the elections as in other climes the journalists most time act as espionages to unravel things.
Also speaking Senibo Joe Johnson added that the group is made up of distinguished and seasoned publishers working for the success of Sir Siminalayi Fubara in the 2023 governorship elections and pleaded to always be availed of critical information to enable them project the party adequately.
Sir Ngo-Martins Yellowe in appreciating Amb. Akawor noted that with an accomplished diplomat as the chairman of the party, the group is certain that the party will keep winning as it has always done.
