The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has elected a new State Chairman.Over 3,000 Members of the party elected Ambassador Desmond Akawor as chairman, at the elective Congress that took place at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt.
Ambassador Desmond Akawor, an indigene of Oyigbo local government area of the state, has a rich political profile. He has served as Ambassador to South Korea, Executive Director at Nigeria Ports Authority, Director General of the PDP campaigns in Rivers state and as General Manager, Niger Delta Basin Development Authority and Director General of Greater Port Harcourt Authority, among other positions. .
Also elected into the new executive were Aaron Chukwuemeka, vice chairman; Dr. Benibo George, secretary; Omodu Isaiah, Assistant secretary 2; and Barr. Blessing Amadi, treasurer; Shedrach Chukwu, financial secretary.
Akawor takes over from Bro. Felix Obuah who has served as chairman for 6 years, and has led the party to victory during the periods.
PDP, had won the governorship and other elective positions across all levels during the 2015 and 2019 general elections under his watch.
