Rivers Labour Union Stage Protest

The organized labour in Rivers state today, joined their counterparts across the country to protest alleged failure of government to approve the new minimum wage for workers.

The peaceful protest held across the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory came less than a week to the planed Nationwide strike over the minimum wage.
Leaders of the three labour unions, The Nigerian Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and United Labour Congress led the protest in Pott Harcourt.
In the meantime, some residents in Port Harcourt has called on Government at all levels to accept the #30, 000 minimum wage demanded by the Organized Labour Union in the country.
The residents while speaking to newsmen expressed displeasure and wondered why workers will receive peanuts, while politicians are paid huge amounts.
Some residents, however advised labour unions to adopt another means of demanding for their rights than embarking on strike, as that will affect the common man in the country
