Rivers Governorship: Kula Community threatens fire over INEC’s decision

The home community of the Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Engr Biokpomabo Awara, has warned that there could be dire consequences if the result of last Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Rivers State, is manipulated.

A very prominent and vocal Chief from Kula Community who spoke on condition of anonymity said “since the creation of Rivers State, Kula Community has been neglected and treated badly despite the level of wealth siphoned from the community through the exploration of Crude oil. Now that providence has brought the Governorship position to Kula to wipe away our tears, and our son won clearly, INEC is trying to connive with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to deny Kula of this great opportunity, that will be at great cost to the Nation”

The Chief hinted that “the community has summoned a meeting of community stakeholders, after that we will make our position known”. When probed further he said “our Oil will not only be good for Nigeria and for Rivers State to earn high revenue from the Federation Account, but our people should be good enough to rule Rivers State or Nigeria. We might have to shutdown all Oil Operations in Rivers State and send every stranger out of Kula Community and environs. We have done it before and we will not hesitate to do it again if INEC tries to deprive our son his victory”

He urged INEC and Wike to approach the Court if Wike is not satisfied with the outcome of the election. “Governor Wike and INEC know that once election results have been declared in any LGA, such results cannot be canceled by INEC. Wike benefited from that in 2015, nothing has changed since then. He should go to the Tribunal after the election and have the Tribunal cancel the results or the election”

“INEC and the Federal Government should not play with fire. It might burn more than they can imagine. Kula people will resist anything order than declaring the election results that our son has won otherwise they can come to Kula and kill us all when we shutdown production”

“As it may appear right now, the Federal Government and INEC have a big situation at hand arising from the Rivers State Election. They must manage in a manner that will appear acceptable and fair to all parties, otherwise the Rivers State Election might spark off another round of disturbance in the Niger Delta region”.
