Resource Verification is Quality Assurance Process, NUC

By Tunde Uchegbuo

Verification of human and infrastructural resources in Nigerian universities is a quality assurance process to ensure that Nigerians get the right education from the nation’s universities.

Representative of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and leader of the resource verification team to Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Obinna Wachukwu, said this during a courtesy visit to the vice-chancellor of the institution, on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Wachukwu said the team was at the university to ascertain the level of preparedness of the institution for the commencement of six new departments.

The proposed departments are Agriculture; Educational Technology; Employment Relations and Human Resource Management; Entrepreneurship; Finance; and Social Work.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of Salem University, Kogi State, and a member of the team, Professor Alewo Akubo, while clarifying that the exercise was not to witch-hunt the institution, said the team was at the place to verify the available resources for the take-off of the proposed programmes.

He described resource verification as a time to compare notes and give advice where necessary.

On his part, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, noted that resource verification and accreditation are key quality assurance procedures by the NUC to improve quality education in Nigerian universities.

Prof. Onuchuku, while asserting that funding is a challenge in most Nigerian universities, acknowledged that Ignatius Ajuru University of Education is doing well in the provision of human and material resources.

He appealed to the resource verification team to offer candid advice that would help to reposition the university.
