Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of previously withheld local government allocations, signaling a move to alleviate the financial strain on workers in the state.
During a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators in Port Harcourt on Friday, Ibas confirmed the allocation release and pledged to take “necessary steps” to ensure the timely payment of workers’ salaries.
Ibas described the meeting as a “pivotal moment” in the state’s journey towards stability and progress. He expressed deep concern over the economic hardship prevalent in the Niger Delta region, despite its abundant natural resources. “This is unacceptable,” he stated, emphasizing the urgent need for transformation and accountability.
Acknowledging the delayed salary payments across local government areas, Ibas expressed empathy for the affected workers. “I feel the pain of the workers,” he said, assuring them that the released allocations would facilitate the prompt disbursement of salaries.
This announcement comes as a welcome relief for local government employees in Rivers State, who have been facing financial difficulties due to the withheld allocations.
