Prof Owunari Georgewill commends President Buhari for launching Initiative to move 5.8 million children from the streets

Reactions are now trailing the launch of the Education for change initiative of the federal government, aimed at moving 5.8 million children from the streets back to school, by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, In Abuja.

In a chat with Africa Update, a Professor of Pharmacology and Researcher, at the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Owunari Abraham Georgewill, stated that the import of this initiative would ensure inclusive education, which will be accessible for all youths irrespective of gender, tribe, religion, economic status, and region.

He noted that the political will mustered by the Federal Government, to implement the Education for Change initiative is commendable and would result in the reduction in poverty, because when more youths become educated, the health status of citizens will improve, and enable them engage in commerce.

Reiterating that more youths would gain knowledge about health and healthy lifestyle, which will eventually lead to relevant and effective learning outcomes as envisaged by the United Nations, thereby achieving the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goal, SDG, targeted at moving 5.8million out of school children from the street.

He said the Education for Change is the federal government initiative to implement directives following the deliberations at the World Economic forum to Governments in Sub Saharan Africa to fix the educational system and bring millions of out of school children back to school into the classrooms.

“Education for Change would by creating innovations through the use of the allocated resources, get children back to the classrooms.Education for Change would encourage rural communities on the values of education, making parents realize the need for their children to be educated in order to grow to the attainment of their full potentials.

“Education for Change would ensure inclusive, accessible and quality education that would transform lives and societies through the realization of the full potentials of the youth.Education for Change would conclusively ensure that each and every child/youth anywhere in Nigeria would have access to same opportunities”, he observed.

He stressed that the initiative will improve access to education and establishment of federal science and technical Schools
