It was more like a cultural fiesta, when the Master of Ceremony and Past District Secretary Rotarian Stanley Echefu invited Rotarian Preba Ibinabo Peacockba Babalola, to the stage to be installed President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Passport, on September 11 at the Dome event center along Peter Odili Road, in Port Harcourt, the State Capital.
Babalola, who appeared in the traditional attire of the Kalabari people, was escorted to the stage by young maidens dressed in the traditional Iria attire and members of the Concern Voice of Degema women foundation led by her leader, Hon. Bridget Alalibo, the respected Chiefs were also on hand to give support to their daughter.
It was indeed a colourful event, as guests were thrilled by the sensational dance steps of Babalola and her close associates.
In her speech, Babalola, who is the 2nd President of the club, disclosed that the club will empower over 200 young women with a global grant of over $30,000.
In her valedictory speech, the Immediate Past President, who is also the Charter President of the Club, Rotarian Darleen Oyegunle, said the club was able to contribute her oatar towards the reduction of maternal and child mortality with the donation of an incubator to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, amongst several interventions in other sectors.
She presented awards to notable rotarians, who according to her assisted her and made the rotary year a huge success. The following persons were presented with awards: the immediate Past District Governor, District 9141, Rotarian Virginia Major, Assistant Governor Nkeiru Enyia, Rotarian Golden Tamuno, and Past Assistant Governor Julius Aguni was presented an award for technical support.
