The Niger state police Boss CP Zubairu Abubakar has ordered for a full scale investigation into the gruesome murder of a J5 bus driver by inspector Isa Mohd on Saturday at a check point on Tegina-lagos Road in Mashegu Local Government Area.
According to our source, the deacesed driver and the police had argued over the bribe requested for at the checkpoint that Saturday morning. Frustrated by the unreasonable request made by the officer, the driver had attempted to walk back to his vehicle with his conductor when the angry officer purportedly fired a shot at the unnamed driver.
The bullet had allegedly pierced through the driver who died on the spot while his conductor sustained a fracture on his leg.
Other drivers were infuriated by the attack on their collegaue, and embarked on a riot.
Confirming the incident to journalists, the command Public Relations officer DSP Bala Elkana, said the inspector is currently in custody and urged citizens to remain calm.
The injured conductor is however receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
