The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the shooting incident at Omademe in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relation’s Officer in Rivers State, DSP. Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the incident.
DSP Nnamdi Omoni also explained that no live was lost as speculated.
He, however admitted that some persons sustained injuries during the incident.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Government has condemned the attack in Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The state commissioner for information and communication, Barr Emma Okah in a statement described the attack on innocent people of Ikwerre as unacceptable.
He urged security agencies to be alert in carrying out their responsibility of protecting lives and properties and ensure that the perpetrators of the act are brought to justice.
In the meantime, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has faulted reports linking the APC to the attack in Ikwerre local government area where, according to reports, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikwerre LGA were having a voters sensitization programme when the shooting occurred.
The publicity secretary of APC in Rivers state, Chris Finebone in a statement urged those accusing the party for the attack to approach security agencies for arrest and prosecution.
Chris Finebone alleged that the PDP made up the story to divert attention.
