Lawmakers in the Rivers State House of Assembly may soon get entangled in series of Litigation following the refusal of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adam Dabotoru Dima to swear in Victoria Nyeche, the lawmaker-elect for Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA) 1 and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the Order Paper, Rt. Hon Dabotoru Dima, had declined the administration of oath of allegiance and membership on Nyeche following an interim court order served on the Assembly against her swearing in.
Hon. Nyeche, who was present at the Assembly denied knowledge of any court order restraining the legislature from swearing her into office.
She said: “I have been elected by my people to represent them. I was surprised to hear that there is a court order that I should not be sworn in. I have not received a copy of such an order.
“I have a Court of Appeal, a higher court, saying that I have been elected to represent my people, and the speaker has informed us today (Thursday) that he has a restraining order from a lower court.”
