The Rivers State Government has evacuated some Rivers state students at the University of Jos following reports of disturbances in parts of Plateau state. The permanent secretary to Rivers state ministry of Education, Dagogo Hart who received the students back to Rivers state on behalf of the commissioner for education, told the evacuated students that the state governor Nyesom Wike ordered their return to the state. He said, “Well, you know that security in this country has been very lopsided. They choose who they protect and go that way. We brought back 32 of them and I told you that the National Union of Rivers State Students’, president was proactive in ensuring that they came back. So, we are still looking forward to seeing that any one that is remaining there will back”. I thank the Rivers state Governor for directing that this should be done immediately.

While speaking to newsmen, Patrick Ogbuehi, the President of the National Union of Rivers State Students’ Worldwide, expressed delight that they are back. He noted that the student community in the University of Jos was attacked by gunmen. “I’m happy that we have the Rivers state students studying in Unijos back to their home state. It is very pathetic that men in security uniform will go about shooting students who are armless and at the ene of it, nobody does anything. Is should be condemned that students who have gone to acquire knowledge are being shot at for no reason
