Orthopedic surgeon, Native Doctor killed by worshippers

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, has confirmed the murder of Dr. Thomas Adekoya-Cole, 60-year-old Orthopedic surgeon with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital,  (LUTH) Idi-Araba, Lagos State, by unknown hoodlums, who abducted and killed him in the Itele area of Ijebu, Ogun State.

Adejobi said eight people have been arrested in connection with Dr. Adekoya-cole’ s murder and that of a native doctor , Omotayo Ogunbowale, who was also murdered on Saturday during a  traditional festival .

He further stated that the suspects would be transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigations, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Africa Update gathered from eyewitnesses that trouble stated on Saturday, when hoodlums stormed  Akongi Street, in the Itele area of Ijebu, during a traditional festival by worshippers and hacked  a native doctor , Omotayo Ogunbowale to death.

There was a clash among the worshippers and everyone, including the LUTH Consultant, Dr. Adekoya-cole  fled to their homes.  But at about 7 a.m. Sunday, hoodlums invaded Adekoya-Cole’s residence and attacked him with matchets.

It was gathered that the doctor was initially rushed to a private hospital in the area, where he was confirmed dead. His corpse has been deposited at a mortuary in Ijebu Ode.
