The Niger Delta people renew their call on the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio to fix the parts of the East-West road under his ministry or face sustained protest for five days.
These portions of the East-West include Benin- Warri- Sapele, Efurun roundabout, Patani- Bomadi-Kaiama, Mbiama, Choba/Uniport junction, Nkpolu junction, Rumudara/Eneka, Eleme Junction flyover – Onne junction(TrailerPark).
In a statement made available to Africa Update , the Niger Delta Activists Forum has issued a seven (7) day ultimatum which is expected to elapse on Tuesday, 4 February, 2020.
Excerpts of the statement jointly signed by the President, Comrade Success Jack President and the Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter, Comrade Tamunoimama Tamunobelema, read: “You would recall that a 21 days ultimatum was issued to the Minister along-side the Minister of Works and Housing, FERMA and NDDC. That ultimatum which started on 20 November, to 11th December, 2019 only ended with promises from the various ministers concerned, including Senator Akpabio.
‘Incidentally, the Minister of Works and Housing responded on the third day of a massive action in a nation wide broadcast, pleading with protesters to sheath their sword and allow FERMA to start work immediately. That promise was kept and work has been ongoing on their parts of the roads mentioned.
‘Regrettably, Senator Godswill Akpabio has continued to rebuff. To this end, the people have resolved to embark on an action that will compel him to heed their demands.
‘The protest will start on Tuesday, 4 -8 February, 2020.
We therefore, call on all concerned and responsible Niger Deltan to support this noble course in the service to our land and our people”.
