One killed, houses burnt as Ondo communities clash

A bloody communal clash broke out yesterday  between the neighbouring towns of Obe Rewoye and Obe Enikanseku, in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. Sources said the crisis erupted after the alleged killing of a resident of Obe Rewoye by people suspected to be indigenes of Obe Enikanseku.

It was learnt that a man, simply identified as Romans Arena, from Obe Rewoye community, was allegedly murdered by hoodlums suspected to be residents of Obe Enikanseku. Sources said Arena engaged in a business deal with some undisclosed persons, which later led to a misunderstanding amongst them.

It was further learnt that some youths from Obe Enikanseku attacked residents of Obe Rewoye, which eventually led to the alleged killing of Arena. The hoodlums reportedly macheted the victim to death and threw his corpse into the river. In retaliation, youths from Obe Rewoye stormed Obe Enikanseku, setting many houses ablaze in the process.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state police command, Femi Joseph said he had not been briefed on the incident as at press time. He however promised to investigate reports on the incident and get back to our correspondent.
