Youths in Nkpolu community of Ohio Akppr local government area are accusing the police of instigating the action that led to the death of one of the youths during a protest in area yesterday.
Angry youths told newsmen that the young man who died from a stray bullet was allegedly shot by policemen.
The youths who were engaged in a peaceful protest, said they were manhandled by the policemen.
They described the act of the policemen as an impunity and asked that the policemen involved should he fished out and justice should be served.
The youth president, Nkpolu community, Ezekiel Bobby, condemned the police’s use of live ammunitions during the peaceful protest aimed at drawing the attention of the government to the deplorable state of the roads and other challenge facing the community.
In the meantime, the police says it had arrested 15 persons in connection with Nkpolu community protest.
Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni told newsmen that the state commissioner of police has ordered an inquiry into what led to the barricade of the East-West road around Nkpolu axis.
He said information available to police did not indicate that anyone was shot dead during the fracas.
Nnamdi, however confirmed that the Nkopu youths may have embarked on the protest over the alleged death of a pregnant woman.
Who died as a result of lack of access to the hospital due to deadlock on the road caused by the poor state of the road.
