Two prominent female journalists in Rivers State, Precious Ahiakwo and Elizabeth Amadi, have been elected as Secretary and Treasurer of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State Chapter.
Ahiakwo and Amadi emerged unopposed after a bye-election conducted by the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, with directives from the National body of NAWOJ.
Africa Update reports that the bye-election was conducted in line with the NUJ constitution months after the election of the Chairperson and other executives of the state chapter, which left these two important positions vacant.
Inaugurating the new members of the State Executive, the State Chairman of NUJ, Stanley Job, charged the duo to work with the State NAWOJ Chairperson to sustain peace and unity in the Association.
Those present at the inauguration include the Deputy National President of NAWOJ, Dr. Lilian Okonkwo- Ogabu, NUJ state secretary, Ike Wigodo; NUJ state auditor, Ominini Leslie Wokoma and NUJ state Treasurer, Doris Morrison, NAWOJ state Deputy Chairperson, Daba Benebo; NAWOJ state Assistance Secretary, Edith Chukwu; the Financial Secretary, Anita Ogona, among others.
Precious Ahiakwo works with the Surveillance Newspaper, while Elizabeth Amadi, is a staff of Rivers State Television (RSTV).
