NACCIMA 60th anniversary; Dr. Membere-Otaji to receive Award of Excellence

At the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) 60th year anniversary, May 25th 2021, Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji, will be honoured with an “Award of Excellence, for his meritorious services / contributions to the growth and development of the medical industry in Nigeria”.

Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji, a graduate of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, was Commissioner for Health Rivers State, and Chairman, Committee of Commissioners of Health, Nigeria from 1999 to 2003, within which period several innovations were initiated including establishing the first statewide Emergency Medical Services (EMS), in the country.

Also as Chairman of the body of Commissioners of Health, he represented the 36 states of Nigeria in a national committee to put in place a workable plan for the takeoff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Acts of 1998. The awardee, a medical doctor turned entrepreneur (with interests in diverse sectors of the economy) has been Executive Chairman of Princess Medical Centre since 1988.

With the support of Shell Nigeria’s Aspire Growth Fund, he set up a multimillion naira, multispecialty new hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 2018. Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji, is a recipient of Award of Excellence of the Nigeria Medical Association, Fellow of the Rivers State College of Health Science and Technology and recipient of the Award of Fellow and also Distinguished Medical Practitioner (DMP), by the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria.

To inculcate community healthy lifestyle, Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji started Bodyboost Fitness and Health Club, Port Harcourt, and also to support excellence in the training of healthcare workers in Nigeria, he instituted the “Dr. Emi Membere-Otaji Excellent Awards Prices for the Best Graduating Students in the final medical examination in Internal medicine and Obstetrics & Gynecology”, at the College of Health Sciences, University of Port Harcourt.
