Umuezibe, Abia State – A mortuary in Umuezibe, Obingwa, along the Aba/Ikot Ekpene highway, was destroyed and its workers arrested after relatives of a deceased young man discovered his testicles were allegedly missing from his body. The incident sparked outrage and near-lynching as community members reacted to the disturbing discovery.
The deceased, identified as Chimaobi, a man in his twenties, reportedly died from electrocution while tampering with high-tension electricity cables in Abayi Okorator. His body was taken to the Umuezibe mortuary pending burial.
The situation escalated when youths from Chimaobi’s community arrived to retrieve his body and discovered that his genitalia were missing. Mortuary attendants attempted to flee the scene but were apprehended by the enraged relatives.
The discovery ignited chaos, with relatives attempting to remove the body for immediate burial or relocation, while youths threatened to destroy the mortuary. A witness stated that only the swift intervention of police officers from Eastern Ngwa prevented the mortuary attendants from being lynched. The workers were subsequently taken into police custody.
A senior police official confirmed that the situation was under control but did not provide further details regarding the investigation or the missing body parts.
