The no-nonsense Tanzanian President John Magufuli has sacked his Home Affairs Minister, Charles Kitwanga for allegedly being drunk during parliament.
The Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Saturday, told state-owned Tanzania Broadcasting corporation (TBC) that the President revoked the Minister’s appointment following reports that he was drunk and failed to respond properly to questions, in parliament.
Magufuli has since taking office last October, sort ways to reduce the level of corruption and unnecessary expenditure. He scrapped a number of ministerial foreign visits and annulled last December’s annual festivities to mark independence, a traditionally extravagant occasion, saying it would be “shameful” to spend money on such festivity in the wake of a cholera outbreak which led to the death of dozens.
