A native of Enugu State and Danfo driver, Mr. James Obinna is presently cooling off with his manhood at the Kirikiri prison pending perfection of his bail condition set at N50,000 with one surety in like sum, while the matter was adjourned to May 11.
The order for the remanding of Mr. Obinna in prison custody was issued by an Apapa Magistrate’s Court presided over by Magistrate, Mr. T. Abolarinwa. The accused who pleaded not guilty to the assault and occasional harm charge against him by the police, was said to have beaten his wife, Ebere to coma over claims that she refused to bear more children after having three kids.
According to eyewitness account, the victim who is a petty trader fled their apartment at 26 Babatunde street, Olodi Apapa, in the middle of the night following attempts by her husband, Obinna to forcefully have sex with her. He had allegedly chased her in anger and tried to force her back to their apartment. When all efforts to persuade or intimidate her back home failed, he beat her brutally and threw her into the gutter. The victim was found unconscious by neighbors who took her to the hospital and also reported the incident to the police.
At the station, the police reportedly asked Obinna to apologize to his wife and pay the medical bill but he Vehemently refused.
