
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the passing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Festac Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Matilda Ngbaronye.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, released a statement on Saturday in Lagos disclosing the news. She explained that CSP Ngbaronye died on Friday after undergoing a surgical procedure at the Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.
Ms. Adebisi characterized her death as a massive loss, noting that CSP Ngbaronye was a disciplined and upright officer who served the Command with exceptional professionalism and integrity. She highlighted that Ngbaronye was known for her diligence, discipline, and devotion to duty, adding that her humane approach significantly strengthened police–public relations.
Ms. Adebisi noted that the late DPO was always reliable in the discharge of her duties, and her passing has deeply shocked the entire Command.
She said the Commissioner of Police, Olohumdare Jimoh, and all officers and men of the Command commiserate with her family and aged mother. Ms. Adebisi added that CP Jimoh personally contacted Ngbaronye’s husband and her elder brother, a priest, to convey the Command’s condolences and offer support.
She concluded that burial arrangements would be announced later and offered prayers for her soul to rest in peace. (NAN)
