The Ijaw Youth Council has advised ex-agitators in Niger Delta to exercise patience with the Federal Government on the issue of the monthly stipends.
Spokesperson of the IYC, Daniel Dasimaka gave the advise after confirming delay in the payment of stipends to the ex-agitators. He however, said the delay was caused by the central bank and not the amnesty office.
He said they have not been paid for the month of October and it is the first time they are experiencing any delay in payment under the current administration and noted that based on findings, the ex-agitators were yet to be paid because the CBN is yet to provide the officials of the amnesty programme with the funds to enable them make the payments.
He pleaded with the ex-agitators to exercise some patience as their pay will get to them soonest.
The spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council also denied allegations that the amnesty coordinator Prof. Charles Dokubo was planning to derail the amnesty process.
Daniel Dasimaka said with improved funding the programme will be on the right course.
He said, ” when there are no funds, they could have delay in the issuance of award letters for the jobs that they give to them usually for empowerment. So, I think it is not out of place for stakeholders to sit down with the managers of the programme and address this issue so we can get lasting solution”.
