INEC Direct Data Capture machine disappears in Ahoada West

The ongoing continuous voter registration has suffered a major setback in Ahoada West Local Government Area, in Rivers State, following the mysterious disappearance of Two INEC Direct Data Capture (DDC) Machines.

Africa Update gathered that three INEC staff are currently in police custody as a result of the disappearance.

Commenting on the issue, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the area, Hon. Ezekiel Aggrey told newsmen that it was a deliberate attempt to deny the people of the area the right to vote, ” I have gone there and I have seen it that the two capturing machines are missing .

“Meanwhile, the DPO and the security agency in Ahoada West have arrested three INEC staff. They are in the police custody now. So I am calling on the security agencies not to release them and I am calling on the INEC to make sure that those two capturing machines should be provided within 24 hours, because my people can not be denied the right to register.

“I am calling on the people of Ahoada West to remain calm. Let them not take laws into their hands. We are on top of the situation,  with the security agencies”.
