“I feel elated, I feel vindicated too” ~ Celestine Akpobari

Reacting to the judgment of the Court of Appeal in the Hague on Friday, that ordered the Nigerian arm of the British-Dutch Oil giant, Shell to pay compensation to four farmers in Ogoni, an Activist, Celestine Akppbari, says he feels elated and vindicated. Speaking to Africa Update, in an exclusive interview on the implication of the landmark judgement, the Environmentalist, who has been advocating and campaigning for environmental Justice in the affected Ogoni community’, said: ‘The implications are many. Shell will no longer treat our environment with levity. And the company now knows that there is no hiding place for them and their atrocities.

‘ He stated that the case which has lingered for 13 years, was filed by Environmental Rights Action, ERA, on behalf of the Communities. Africa Update was reliably informed that though no judgment sum was stated in the ruling, the judgment was greeted by wild jubilation across ogoni communities.
