Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Tributes and encomiums have flooded in for the highly decorated journalist, academic, and entrepreneur, Gloria Boma Harry, who celebrated her birthday this year with a deeply personal act of philanthropy.
The celebrated figure, known for her extensive roles including Lecturer at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Publisher of the Africa Update Newspaper and Springpoint Magazine, and CEO of platforms like Trendsetters Awards, Talent Arise, and Mama Market spent her day distributing cash gifts to random female traders at the busy Creek Road Market in Port Harcourt.
Speaking with our correspondent after the exercise, Harry revealed that this unconventional celebration was a poignant tribute dedicated to her late mother, Mrs. Amonibia Harry.
“Nostalgic feelings about my late parents, Hon and Mrs. Massey Harry, particularly my mother, influenced my decision to visit the market to celebrate my birthday rather than having it any other way,” she shared. The gesture transformed her special day into a meaningful way to honour the memory of her family through community service.
Harry’s extensive professional pedigree includes serving as the immediate past Chairman of the Independent Newspaper Publishers’ Association (RIVPA). She also actively champions community engagement through her work as a dedicated Rotarian, currently serving as the Editor in Chief of the ProMax Chronicle, a monthly newsletter for Rotary District 9141.
The day’s events highlighted not only her significant achievements in media and academia but also her commitment to using her influence for direct community impact and remembering the roots that shaped her.
