The Executive Chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Area, the Honourable Charles Wobodo, has issued a clarion call to the inhabitants of Ozuaha, Omademe, and Ipo to fortify their local security architectures. The appeal seeks to safeguard the integrity of the critical electricity reconnection project currently underway within their territories.
The Chairman delivered this charge on Monday during the formal inauguration of Phase II of the electrification initiative in Omademe. He implored the beneficiary communities to establish functional electricity committees tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance, the meticulous management of infrastructure, and the prompt settlement of utility tariffs.
Reflecting on the history of the project, the Honourable Wobodo acknowledged the substantial capital previously invested by his predecessor. He noted, however, that those efforts were regrettably undermined by “agents of darkness.” He reassured the gathered constituents of his administration’s unwavering resolve to ensure the contractors adhere strictly to the agreed timeline. The Chairman emphasised that a stable power supply remains the cornerstone for stimulating local commerce and enticing prospective investors to the region.
“My administration shall Brook no lawlessness, vandalism, or any illicit acts aimed at compromising this project,” the Chairman warned, underscoring a zero-tolerance policy toward infrastructure interference.
The Special Guest of Honour, Eze Engr. Samuel Nwanosike, JP Chairman of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) lauded the Honourable Wobodo for exceeding expectations within a mere 100 days in office. Eze Nwanosike remarked that the Chairman has exhibited exceptional competence, effectively silencing sceptics who questioned his leadership during the nomination process.
The Royal Father further enjoined traditional rulers and Chairmen of Community Development Committees (CDCs) to assume personal responsibility for the protection of electrical assets. Additionally, he encouraged residents to participate in the ongoing INEC registration exercise to ensure a robust democratic mandate in the 2027 electoral cycle.
The Honourable Kachi Wonodi, representing Omademe Ward in the 10th Legislative Assembly, expressed his gratitude for the initiative, noting that the success observed in the Omagwa Phase I project would serve as a blueprint for the current phase.
Representing the joint CDCs, Dr Cyprian Amaechi stated that the restoration of power has “restored dignity and development” to the area, bolstering public confidence in the apparatus of government. Similar sentiments were echoed by Chief Livingston Amadi and Chief Hon. Chimene Amadi, who noted that after a decade of darkness, the Chairman’s intervention has “wiped away the tears” of the people.
The Honourable Prince Lemchi Nyeche, representing the Ikwerre State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, provided assurances that he would remain steadfast in his legislative duties despite ongoing political complexities. He highlighted his personal initiative in attracting a new town hall project to the area, aligning with the “Renewed Hope Agenda.” He urged continued loyalty to the policies of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
The event, which featured a vibrant display of cultural heritage and the traditional presentation of kola nuts, was attended by a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including the PDP State Women Leader, Hon. Mrs Mirian Ogbona, alongside traditional rulers, youth leaders, and various community groups.
