The Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Charles Wobodo, has restated his administration’s dedicated resolve to ensure women are actively integrated into the framework of governance and community development.
The Chairman made these remarks today at the Council Headquarters in Isiokpo during a courtesy visit by the members of the Nwerekamma Ladies Association of Ikwerre Land.
While receiving the delegation, Hon. Wobodo commended the association for its 43-year legacy and its consistent contributions to the socio-cultural fabric of Ikwerre Land. However, he accompanied his praise with a call for institutional evolution, urging the group to deliberately recruit and mentor the younger generation.
“There is a vital need to nurture our youth into responsible and proficient personalities,” the Chairman remarked. “By incorporating younger women into your fold, you ensure that the vision and sustained contributions of this association are preserved for decades to come.”
Hon. Wobodo further assured the group of his administration’s continued cooperation, asserting that women remain “critical stakeholders” in the overarching growth and prosperity of the local government area.
The President of the Association, Dame Henrietta Onumbu, leading a membership of over 60 women, expressed profound appreciation for the Chairman’s performance since assuming office. She specifically cited his first 100 days as a benchmark of excellence and evidence that the electorate had made a prudent choice.
Dame Onumbu highlighted several key achievements of the administration:
- Infrastructural Development: The visible strides in public works across the various wards of Ikwerre.
- Inclusive Governance: The administration’s openness to community-based organisations.
- Leadership Integrity: The dedication shown by both the Chairman and his deputy.
The visit concluded with a formal presentation of awards. The association bestowed meritorious honours upon both Hon. Charles Wobodo and the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs Ethel Kinika, in recognition of their exemplary service and dedication to the people of Ikwerre.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Wariso Wariso, the council reaffirmed that the visit underscores the strong synergy between the local government leadership and the grassroots organisations that drive communal progress.
