Harry-Banigo bags “Mother Per Excellence” award, as DELGA PDP female stakeholders declare support for Wike’s political stance

Female stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Degema Local Government Area, on Tuesday, unanimously declared absolute determination to ensure that all women from the LGA are members of the PDP before the next election. This declaration was made on behalf the women, by the DELGA PDP Woman leader, Hon. Stella Good head, as she presented the position of the women to the Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo. She said, “Your Excellency Ma, as I speak, in this short time sworn into office, hundreds of women have come to join PDP from other parties especially APC, promising, we shall not relent till every woman in Degema LGA has joined PDP faithfully as we look forward to victories come 2021 local government elections and 2023 general elections.” Goodhead, eulogized the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, for his stance in having a gender friendly government, which has led to the decision to break the age long barrier placed on women by past administrations, by making a woman the first female deputy Governor in his administration. “Special thanks to His Excellency, Mr. Quality Projects, Our Gender Friendly Governor who gave the opportunity for five female counsellors to emerge in the 2018 local governments elections.

Your Excellency Ma, we appeal that more opportunities be given to intending female counsellors in the fourth coming local government elections as more zealous and courageous ladies of Degema are warming up in line with His Excellency’s encouragements for female participation in governance,” she said. She further commended the deputy Governor for the various skills acquisition programmes embarked upon in various communities in the LGA. On her part, the Deputy Governor, expressed joy at the visit and the vite of confidence passed on the Wike led administration. She urged the women to use their unique positions as mothers to groom youths that would become better leaders in the future. She decried various trends which have exposed the environment to pollution, resulting in the destruction of the ecological system, and urged women to provide the needed guidance for children whether biological or not. Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of an award to the Deputy Governor. Those in attendance are 17 PDP ward women leaders in DELGA, and Female PDP stakeholders including Hon. Bridget Alalibo, Dr. Emily Solomon, Hon. Gloria Boma Harry, Hon. Okorite C. Adiele. Hon. Dr. Vivian Elenwo, Hon. Agiriba Bibi, and Mrs Charity Obasi, amongst others.
