Commuters plying the Ikwerre road axis of Rivers State are now stranded because a bus driver was almost killed by the Task force constituted by the Rivers State Government to check the activities of commercial bus and taxi drivers in the state.
A commercial bus driver who spoke to Africa Update on condition of anonymity, said a driver was almost killed today, when members of the task force allegedly beat the man to stupor.
He said bus and taxi drivers in the state have been constantly harassed by the members of the task force, to the extent that their vehicles were reportedly destroyed or a fine of N50,000 was paid to the task force for offenses.
Stating further that drivers will not commence operations if the State Government does not sanction erring members of the task force, in a bid to alleviate their sufferings.
Africa Update gathered that the victim is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
