Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the state from anti-democratic forces, stating he would “pay the supreme price” if necessary. He emphasized that the interests of Rivers State remain his paramount priority, and he will not be deterred by ongoing antagonism against his administration.
Speaking at the inauguration of the reconstructed Rivers State Government House Staff Quarters on Monday, Governor Fubara acknowledged the recent Supreme Court judgment had dampened the spirits of many Rivers people. However, he urged them to remain resolute, assuring them that “victory is assured for the State.”
“I assure you that I will lead you with honour, I will lead you with respect, and I will lead you with integrity,” Governor Fubara stated, emphasizing his commitment to accountable governance. “I want to be proud to defend my position” when called upon in the future.
He asserted that the time has come for Rivers people to “take their destinies in their hands,” regardless of the attempts by adversaries to undermine the state. While reiterating his aversion to violence and lawlessness, he warned that his administration would not tolerate attempts to destabilize the state.
“No matter how we’ve been fooled in this State, it has gotten to a point when the people have to decide to take their destinies in their hands,” he declared. “Since I don’t subscribe to violence, when the time comes for us to take a decision, I will lead the course for that decision.”
Governor Fubara dismissed any fear of losing his office, stating, “The worst that will happen is for me to leave the office. Am I leaving the earth? Is it going to stop me from existing?” He urged the youth of Rivers State to remain strong and assured them they would “hear from us” at the appropriate time.
