Gov. Fubara exhorting calm, reaffirms divine faith amidst legislative turmoil

PORT HARCOURT – His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has issued a poignant call for public tranquility, urging citizens to remain steadfast and repose their trust in the Almighty as his administration navigates the current political landscape to preserve state-wide peace.

The Governor’s appeal was delivered during a solemn Inter-Denominational Church Service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, held in commemoration of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

Addressing the congregation against the backdrop of recent legislative friction, including the significant news of two lawmakers rescinding their support for impeachment proceedings, Governor Fubara emphasised that his characteristic composure is rooted in his spiritual foundation. He asserted that there remains no cause for public trepidation or agitation when leadership is anchored upon divine authority.

“I am cognisant of the strength I possess. I know that I am upheld by that which is supreme: God,” the Governor remarked. “I desire for everyone to remain at ease. Our paramount objective is the peace of this esteemed State, and we shall secure it through the grace of God.”

The Governor further reassured the populace that the “entrenchment of lasting peace” remains the cornerstone of his administration’s mandate, pursued through a commitment to responsible governance and faith.

The Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, echoed the sentiments of the day’s liturgy, reminding those gathered that a person’s ultimate legacy is defined by their impact on humanity. She paid a moving tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes, heroines, and veterans, describing their selflessness as “invaluable.”

“Prayers have sustained us thus far, and we remain convinced that they shall continue to uphold the government of Sir Siminalayi Fubara and my humble self,” Professor Odu stated, calling for continued intercession for the executive.

The sermon, titled “Only Remembered by What We Have Done,” was delivered by the Most Reverend Blessing Enyindah, Archbishop of the Niger Delta Province. Drawing from Judges 5:1–10, the Archbishop commended Governor Fubara for his unwavering support of the Armed Forces. He challenged both leaders and the laity to utilise their positions to foster a legacy of service, love, and justice.

“When we serve God with our hearts and light, we shall be remembered,” the Archbishop noted. “The question remains for each of us: for what shall you be remembered?”

The service concluded with intercessory prayers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the families of the bereaved, and for divine wisdom to guide President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Rivers State Executive Council in the discharge of their duties.
