Local Government Coordinators of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), organised a one day colloquium at the Hotel Presidential, in honour of the Rivers State Governor, Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON GSSRS POS-Africa.
The event was also organised to honour innocuous and ardent party followers that were grusomely murdered during the 2019 general elections in Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru LGA.
Recieving the posthumous award as a special guest of honour, on September 23, the Executive Chairman of Akuku Toru Local Government Area, Rowland Charles Sekibo, said, the overwhelming performance of the Governor endeared love and respect to himself and the political party that made Rivers sons and daughters to stand tenaciously in protecting their votes.
His words: “We’ve seen what our leader has done, so at least whatever they had called him that’s in good light, he deserves that or more as far as I am concerned.
“Politics is practical and considering what we met in 2015, there’s a tremendous improvement in the state now. In terms of infrastructural development, he has done so well and that is governance, and that is why we are in politics, to add value to the lives of our people.
“Yes of cause! There’s no Local Government Area in the state that you will not see his footprint. projects are awarded to meet the yearnings of the people, and one of such massive projects is the road leading to Governor Peter Odili town in Omoku.
“They are numerous. Gov. Wike has done a lot; He just commissioned the Abonnema Ring road phase II, flagged off the Trans Kalabari road and other projects that are economically viable to the development of our people.
“Let me use this medium to invite the media to our hundred days in office celebration where infrastructural development and Scholarship scheme will be commissioned and awarded respectively in the LGA.
“We will just encourage them to come. You see that we are winning; Governance is about adding value to your people by improving their lives and that is what the Governor has done.
“With due respect to previous administrations in the state, Governor Wike has dwarfed their performance in all ramifications.
“You may not like him as a person but you cannot say that he has not developed the state considering where we are and what we have. 2015 and 2019, we supported him because we know he will deliver and there is no Local Government in the state that he has not delivered democratic dividends, hence we are happy with him.
“We are trying, you know likes begat likes. You cannot be an ardent follower of Governor Wike and not do what he’s doing, I must reciprocate in my place.
“Considering the caliber of persons we have in the other side of the political divide, we still delivered the party’s interest and seemingly delivered in terms of infrastructure: During my first term, I was able to Commission a 5,000 capacity stadium considering the fact that I am number seventeen (17) in the state in terms of statutory allocation.”
