The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) is advising the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) to ensure that the clean up project of Ogoni is done in line with the local content laws of the country. The President of the Movement for Survival of Ogoni People Legborsi Pyagbara made the call when the Eleme kingdom leadership of MOSOP and its chapter visited him in his office in Port Harcourt.
Legborsi Pyagbara said HYPREP must carry out the clean uo exercise in line with the local content so as to ensure Ogonis benefit from the project economically.
He said : “In our own case, we have to interpret that local content to be for Ogoni people. So if there is a project in Ogoni, we want a situation where the local content benefit from that project should be accessed by the Ogoni people in the area where the clean up is going to be done. So,our own argument has been that local content should be relative to the Ogoni people who are going to be impacted by the project implementation on the ground and I think that is also being accepted.”
