Lagos, Nigeria — Tolani Otedola, a musician and the daughter of business tycoon Femi Otedola, has caused a stir online after she received a rare tropical Okinawa mango valued at £180 (over ₦367,000) as a gift. The singer shared her experience on her Instagram story, showing off the luxuriously packaged fruit that was sent by a well-wisher who knew about her love for mangoes.
A Gift with a Twist
While unboxing the expensive mango, Tolani expressed a mix of excitement and frustration. The fruit came with a manual written entirely in Japanese, which she couldn’t read. “Somehow, I have become the girl people send fruits to instead of nice things like jewelry,” she said, jokingly. “I am getting fruits but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. This time, I have received a tropical Okinawa mango.”
Despite her mild complaint, she was clearly delighted. She shared her joy with her followers, saying the fruit smelled “so good” and exclaiming, “I am speechless!” She also admitted to googling the price of the mango, which is how she discovered its staggering cost. The singer ended her video with a humorous line, guessing that the Japanese manual likely translates to “good as f**k.”
In her words:
“Somehow, I have become the girl people send fruits to instead of nice things like jewelries. I am getting fruits but hey, beggars can’t be choosers. This time, I have received a tropical Okinawa mango. I love mangoes but I love Naija mangoes,” she said joyfully.
She continued, “This is very exciting, it has a manual on how to eat it in Japanese. Am I supposed to say how much this was because I don’t think the person thinks I should know but I googled it. This is 180 pounds. That smells so good. Jehova is lord! I am speechless, I wish I could read what this manual is saying but I bet it’s saying ‘good as fcck.’”
