Wike’s grouse with Danagogo and the genesis of the political crisis in Rivers State

On Saturday at Abalama, Wike spent almost ten minutes dwelling on the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo. In his usual style dividing to rules and pitching family against each, the Minister of FCT found no better place to make weak attempts at the towering personality of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government and Former Minister for Sports.

It is no gain saying that when Wike had intended the grounding of the Rivers State Government when he asked cabinet members of the Governor to resign, Dr. Danagogo kept the interest of the State above his personal interest and worked overtime to ensure that the business of governance did not suffer.

As someone who has served under two previous governors and was the life wire of Nyesom Wike’s administration, his expertise was brought to bear where he filled in the missing links and supported Governor Fubara for the interest of Rivers People.

One can easily say that Wike’s annoyance with Dr. Danagogo is solely because he did not abandon the Governor and Rivers People just like he instructed.

On Saturday, Chief Wike stood on stage to tell a blatant lie that the issues in Rivers State began when the SSG got his elder brother Justice Danagogo to give an ex parte order saying the 27 assembly members had defected.

One would wonder if the FCT minister was assuming that those in the audience were toddlers or if he had selective amnesia. At best, I would say it is an attempt to tell a false narrative consistently hoping that it replaces the truth.

For the avoidance of doubt, the crises in Rivers State were set in motion on Sunday, the 29th of October 2023, when Wike called assembly members loyal to him and gave orders for the impeachment of Governor Fubara. In the wee hours of Monday 30th October 2023, Assembly members drove in convoy to the House of Assembly complex to implement their orchestrated sinister act. Rivers People heard of it and mobilized to the complex and to the government house in support of the Governor who had been teargassed and water bombed by the men of the Police force under the instruction of the Minister of FCT. It is because of the incidents of that day that has led this administration to celebrate every 30th of October as Liberation Day.

On the 11th of December 2023, Martins Amaewhule announced the defection of himself and 26 other members of the assembly to the APC. A letter of defection was formally written and read on the floor of the house. Amaewhule himself stated his defection in an affidavit he swore.

On the 12th of December 2023, relying on their defection, Justice Danagogo gave an exparte order declaring their seats vacant, which made way for Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie to be voted in as Speaker by the remaining members of the house.

Now following the chronological order of things, Wike ignored the order he gave to assembly members loyal to him on the 29th of October 2023; ignored the attempted impeachment moves against the Governor on 30th of October 2023; ignored the defection of assembly members loyal to him on the 11th of December 2023 but chose to state that the crisis in the state began only when Justice Danagogo gave an order relying on an action assembly members loyal to him did on their own freewill.

Haba! Haba! At this point, Wike should “fear God” at least.

Wike himself should know better that the fact that two people are related doesn’t rob them of the ability to act independently, void of bias

Wike’s nephew was the Inec Commissioner who oversaw the Edo State election. There was an outcry by Edo people that the Man’s relationship with him would compromise the process but wike insisted stated that “
Even though he was his “brother”, does that stop him from doing his work…

Wike in a clear view of the world, on Saturday, alleged without proof and further denigrated the judicial system he has been a serial beneficiary of.

Today, Dr. Tammy Danagogo is a bad man. Today Wike suddenly loves the Kalabaris, but it was the same Kalabari that he withheld their LGA allocation simply because they stood with their brother – he held their allocation for almost three months until they came to beg.

One thing is sure, posterity will judge us all but until then, it is the role of men of good conscience to set the records straight and ensure that the men who thrive in chaos and terror do not succeed in rewriting history.
