The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) officially commenced construction on a major urban artery on Friday, inaugurating the Transit Way (N2) road designed to critically link Wuse Zone to the Central Area. The launch was accompanied by a firm assurance from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, that this project is the precursor to a rapid and sustained infrastructure rollout across the capital.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Wike underscored the inseparable link between robust road networks and economic vitality.

“There is no development in any city without a good network of roads,” Wike stated emphatically. “When all the cities are linked with good roads, then you can talk about development. Road infrastructure attracts investment.”

Cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda

The  road project is positioned as one of the flagship infrastructure achievements slated for President Bola Tinubu’s third-year anniversary celebrations. Wike articulated the FCTA’s mission to transform Abuja into a model modern city, not just through roads but also through the rehabilitation of schools, healthcare facilities, and the creation of investor-friendly policies.

The Minister cited compelling evidence of international interest, mentioning that a Dubai-based company has already committed to replicating the globally renowned Dubai City Walk project within the FCT.

Wike elaborated that the  corridor, which will be supported by two strategic bridges, evolved from a citizen-led initiative around the TY Danjuma Foundation. The FCTA expanded the project’s scope to ensure a comprehensive connection between the Central Area and Wuse District, effectively decongesting major city hubs.

Zero Tolerance for Delays

In a clear warning to contractors and top officials, the Minister stressed the urgency of timely project delivery and announced plans for stringent supervision.

“Time waits for nobody. If you don’t know how to meet up, go and ask those who know how to beat up with the speed I work with,” Wike cautioned, instructing senior officials to keep their phones operational  hours a day for effective coordination.

The  road inauguration is part of a continuous wave of project launch activities scheduled to run until late October, with more vital economic and aesthetic projects set to be unveiled from November onward.

Complementing the road efforts, the Minister announced fresh plans to rehabilitate no less than  additional schools across the FCT, building upon  ongoing school projects, of which approximately  have already reached completion. He confirmed that focus would soon shift to healthcare facilities.

Strengthening Connectivity and Legislative Partnership

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for FCT, hailed the project as a major milestone in strengthening connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and promoting seamless movement within the Abuja City centre.

Minister Mahmoud noted that the  Transit Way is a tangible demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda translating into visible dividends for residents. She particularly commended the National Assembly for its consistent support and legislative backing.

“Your role in ensuring that the FCT receives the needed budgetary attention and oversight is highly commendable, and today, we are witnessing the fruits of such partnership,” she concluded.
